Aim High - Oakland Literacy Coalition
Aim High has been providing a no-cost, 5-week summer learning program for middle school students all over the Bay Area with our largest student populations being in SF and Oakland, for 35 summers.
Aim High creates life-changing opportunities during the summer and beyond. Our community:
- Nurtures the promise and potential of middle school students from low-income neighborhoods
- Prepares students for high school, setting them on the path to college and future success
- Inspires the next generation of teachers and educational leader
Aim High is committed to closing the opportunity and achievement gaps in Northern California through our transformative summer learning program. We envision every middle school student having access to joyful summer learning, inspired and innovative teachers, and the support they need to succeed in school and life.
Aim High operates 18 summer sites, in partnership with local school districts, some charter schools and a couple independent schools all over the Bay Area. We serve students in San Francisco, Oakland, Richmond, Redwood City, Napa, Novato, San Rafael, and in the Tahoe Truckee area.
A typical day includes 4 academic classes (math, science, humanities and Issues & Choices) as well as 1-2 afternoon activities (sports, arts, gardening, cooking, coding, engineering, drama, dance, etc.). We also have many community building elements through out each and everyday including assemblies, community circles and whole site games and events.
