Organization Mission & Overview

Agency by Design Oakland is an organization based in Oakland, CA that provides professional development for educators to cultivate their agency so that their students experience joyful and deep learning and become independent problem solvers. By igniting curiosity and a sense of playfulness, Agency by Design Oakland provides professional and personal development that empowers educators to shift their teaching practices.

The mission of Agency by Design Oakland is to ensure all educators and learners have the agency to shape the world around them.

Core Programs

ABDO SIGNATURE TEACHER FELLOWSHIP
Launched in 2017 as their signature program, this fellowship is designed
for a community of creative educators to elevate their teaching practices
with a focus on maker-centered learning.

APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM: HEALING-CENTERED LEADERSHIP
A year-long fellowship for educators of the global majority to develop and
elevate leadership and facilitation skills. Fellows gain concrete facilitation
skills while honoring and discovering their identity, values, joy and
healing.

Short, single session workshops to get a taste of some aspects of the
Agency by Design framework with a focus on building connections along
with emergent topics that are relevant at the moment.
