BACKGROUND:

The Elaine Wells Books Kids Want to Read program is named after long-time FOPSL (Friends of the Oakland Public Schools Libraries) Board member and volunteer, Elaine Wells. The program provides funding to purchase books for OUSD school libraries and support collections that are high-interest, representative, and engaging.

GRANT DETAILS:

Grants will be awarded in amounts ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 to purchase books for school library collections.

HOW TO APPLY:

Interested OUSD library staff members may submit an application using a brief online form.

If you work in two separate school libraries, you may submit one grant application per library.

ELIGIBILITY:

All school library staff serving students at OUSD schools are invited to apply.

LIBRARY VENDOR REQUIREMENT:

All grant money will be spent with library vendors, Mackin or Follett, and must include shelf-ready processing. This includes Kapco covers for any paperbacks ordered.
