Children Rising founded in 2001, is a collaboration of organizations, congregations, businesses, educators, civic leaders and concerned individuals mobilized to invest their time and other resources to improve the whole health of children and families. We seek to develop these partnerships and challenge people to act on their values to help schools, families and communities develop students who have acquired the skills and attitudes that will maximize their full potential and enhance their participation as responsible, contributing members of society.

Through its Urban School Adoption program Children Rising, in response to needs expressed by school principals and teachers, provides tutors, mentors, classroom assistants, library helpers, teacher appreciation events, family support, summer camp for city kids and more.

Literacy Programs

Children Rising designed the three-tiered Succeeding by Reading (SbR) initiative to advance student achievement in the area most critical for academic success: literacy. Children Rising also provides library support services to OUSD libraries. This includes regular class visits to the library with enrichment programs and lessons as well as completing research groups in collaboration with teachers.
