The mission of CHS is to reach out to children and families at risk with a range of services that ensure every child the opportunity to develop within a safe, healthy, and secure environment. In our Oakland office, we provide school readiness workshops for parents and their children, interactive story time reading events to promote early literacy, and family resource center services for families needing extra assistance accessing services in their community.

Literacy Programs
Children’s Home Society of California provides early learning and education resources and workshops to parents and child care providers in several locations throughout California. At our Oakland location at the Eastmont Town Center, we are working with the local library and other organizations to provide early literacy activities and resources to local parents. We provide weekly school readiness workshops, which include language and literacy components. We also provide weekly story time reading events on a drop-in basis in partnership with the Talk, Read, Sing campaign and Oakland READS 2020. These programs are available to parents with children of all ages. The goal of our programs is to promote school readiness and early literacy through fun, interactive activities and improve parental knowledge of child development so all children enter school ready to succeed.
